Ardal O’Hanlon is the star of Father Ted (C4) and Death in Paradise (BBC), and appeared in the final two series of Derry Girls (C4). A founding figure in Dublin’s comedy scene, he won the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year after moving to London and became a household name through sitcom success.
Alongside his television work, Ardal remains a global touring stand-up, known for his punchy, absurdist, life-enhancing comedy. He’s played major festivals including Montreal, Edinburgh, and Melbourne, and hosted The Stand Up Show (BBC) for three series. He appeared on the first-ever series of Live at the Apollo and returned in a recent season, as well as on Michael McIntyre’s Roadshow, and was the first overseas act to record a Comedy Central (USA) special.
TV appearances include Would I Lie to You?, Taskmaster, and The Graham Norton Show, alongside acting roles in My Hero, Big Bad World, Skins, London Irish, and Doctor Who.
He’s made several acclaimed documentaries and authored two novels: the bestselling The Talk of the Town (named in 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die) and 2022’s Brouhaha. His stage work includes The Weir (West End, Olivier nomination) and God of Carnage (Gate Theatre).
